Hi, Jennifer.

Thanks, and yes I'd sure like to know what's wrong
with my page. But I'm afraid it would be a big
project for you. Still, if you can give me any
advice, I'll be very grateful.

Hi, Everybody.

I've been working on the file names on my web
page. I don't have Netscape Navigator (because I
downloaded it once, couldn't figure it out, so
deleted it, and now they won't let me download
anything but an update). Would one or two of you
who do use Netscape try out some of my links? They
weren't working for Netscape, so I've changed file
names, and hope they will work now. You can reply
to me from my webpage, or from the address below
my name.

Not all the links are clickable yet, but any that
are clickable should take you to a web page. If
they don't, I'll have to try something else.

Thanks for your help,

Hi Cindy,
I got frustrated with Nutscape after they became AOL and I went
looking for something else. What I found is a browser from across the
pond callen Opera. It is not jam packed with all kinds of junk and
therefore is much faster and downloads much faster. It works with
almost all sites that I have ever been to just as well as the two giants.
All the plug ins that I use operate with it just fine. One downside is
that there is no spell check for composing (as you can tell by my
posts), and I have not been able to find a way to insert active links
unless I copy them that way to begin with. It is free to download
unless you want to get rid of a banner ad that always runs on the top.
I was going to do that, but after using it for a while I got to where I
ignore it. You can set it to view the whole page and get rid of
everything on the top, though.
I have no financial interest in Opera.
go to http://my.opera.com/ to download

as a general rule, keep file/folder names all lower case, no spaces, avoid
hyphens, and things like img src="ffbowltallpedistal.jpg.jpg - the repeated
"." won't help.

more important than Navigator (and I didn't check in that yet) - you seem to
be using a font that is non-standard. If that font isn't on the viewer's
machine, the text comes up as garbage.

nice pics, though

hope this helps

Well,
Sad to say your home page is a mess in NC 4.73 for Mac. I see
your title, welcome line, top pic, your hurray paragraph and
one other pic half of which is off the left side of the page.
Nothing else. I can see all in IE, which I keep for this kind of
thing. I like NC because several people can use it and have
separate email, folders and bookmark lists. My hubbie and I can
have our own set of preferences. We just open NC using our own
profile. Let me know if you want to know what's wrong with your
site. I read a newsgroup that's good at this kind of trouble shooting...

Hi Jennifer- would you mind giving more info about this newsgroup? I know
my home page (first one below) doesn't come across properly with Netscape
and, being a raw beginner at this, have no clue how to change things so the
site will work with browsers other than the Microsoft Explorer.

the newsgroup is netscape.macintosh
You have to sign on in your browser using the newsgroup
function.
My internet access is jammed for now but I'll look at your web
page later today and see how it works for me.
Take Care
Jennifer, NC 4.73/Mac user....I guess I like being in the minority....

Hi Ann ~

You're using css absolute positioning (style sheets) to arrange
content on the page, which is not compatible with Netscape 4 (which uses
their proprietary element for that which is now obsolete.) NN4 is
hardly worth supporting ... except for the fact that at the moment there's
not much else available to users on UNIX-based systems.

The solution for your page ... use tables rather than styles to
arrange your content. It is possible to make your present code work with NN4
by adding browser detection code and script that modifies the positioning
code to "layers" language, but that would be a whole lot more work, and
isn't really needed for such a simple document.

If you need a tutorial on tables, we offer a free online
self-teaching course in web development at http://www.simpcoms.com

GW gave more complete info about this problem than I got asking
the netscape.macintosh. Too bad the world is beginning taken
over by Billy Gates.....so much for diversity. Hopefully NC 6
will come of age(get debugged), as it seems to be a major
upgrade....for now I stick with NC 4 and encourage web site
makers to KISS(keep it simple stupid) . That way all browsers
can read a site.....
Jennifer, sorry to be OT
