Hi Susan,

It could work if you could get the glaze applied uniformly and to a
reasonable thickness. Applying glaze over a previously glaze piece is not
easy. But as you said yourself, the only way to know for sure would be to
test it. The better way is to use a stable glaze to start with. You can
have a nice copper green matte or semimatte that is stable. Xavier's Warm
Jade Green is a nice one in the semimatte category at cone 6.

John

Thanks to all for the helpful & fascinating posts on foodsafe glazes. I was
particularly intrigued by John Hesselberth's experiments with putting a
thin layer of transparent glaze over a leaching copper matt.

I wonder if it's worth trying to reglaze OVER a previously fired piece
glazed with a copper matt. I know I'd still have to test it for leaching,
but I wonder if it's even worth the kiln space. Whaddya think... is there
ANY reason to believe this could work, or am I deluding myself?

-Susan, who fired a kiln full of tosh green pots two days before reading
all those great posts about glaze stability :(

Thanks... I'll give it a try and see what happens!

I REALLY appreciate the list of tested glazes on your site... I had already
decided to start using xavier's from now on. It looks like a great glaze.

Thanks again for all your work on this subject... any more news on a
publication date for your book? I've already notified Santa.
