quick question on gas kiln install

Hi group,
I have a quick question on an install of a gas kiln I'm working on.
I have an Olympic 2827G that is new.
I'm installing outside ( NE OHIO) on a 10X14 deck made of treated wood. I'm
going to set a 10X14 STEEL shed on top of the deck. 8ft ceiling. I'm
PLANNING on using a Vent-A-Kiln swing away vent to link up to chimney ( any
comments here would be appreciated, some say I don't even need the vent?)
Kiln will sit on patio blocks inside the shed , on top of the deck ( the 2"
thick cinder block-type that are 16" square. I thought I'd make a base about
a foot bigger than the kiln on the floor.
OK, here's the question. Do you think I need something between the blocks
and the floor, like a 1/2 sheet of plywood for further protection.? I have
no idea how hot it actually gets below the burners/kiln. I'd like to get it
in place BEFORE I bolt up any mountings for vent .
Our cat used to sleep under the electric kiln in the garage at full cone6
firing. But, that is electric on a cement floor.
One other question I just thought of. Manufacturer say 3/4" gas line if flex
or 1/2" if solid. I'm going to use flex for about a 50 foot run, so I'm
planning on a 1" FLEX coming right off 1" house supply before furnace, etc.
Sound ok to everyone?
Please, comments.

Under a pre-built gas kiln it gets hot enough to boil away water. You my
rethink putting it on a wood deck. I have a Aim and it's on my driveway,
gets very hot under it.

Hi,
I think you need at least 18" of space between your kiln floor and the
deck plus the cinderblock with either metal, wonder board, definately
not more wood. Mike Gordon, Walnut Creek, Ca.

Dale, my Olympic 27/23 updraft was installed with its stand on a layer of=20
firebricks in a small shed outside . I fired to cone 6 and it was not hot=20
at all under the kiln. Cat went there with no problems. She knew how to=20
keep out of the way of the burners, but eventually preferred sleeping=20
beside the kiln, rather than under it.

Fran=E7oise in Spain with no kiln, wheel or clay :(

Thanks very much Francoise.
I'm slowly sifting through all my responses and formulating solutions in =
my
head. I'm "Locked into" the steel shed since I built the deck and it
specifically for that. Can't fire gas in my garage like my electric becau=
se
I can't get a stack/vent outside without putting a serious bend in it. So=
,
it will have to be worked out. I'm sure I can.
Good info since same kiln. I will be firing to cone 8ish though but proba=
bly
not much higher.
At least those are the plans.
Funny about the cat thing. I couldn't believe they do that. The garage is
really hot when I fire but cat loved it directly under the kiln. I never
checked temp there but IT HAD TO BE cooler than beside it!
