Dear Imzadi D,

Buy some good ear plugs and follow your heart. Make for yourself, for a =
few hours each week. Just make these things for you. Do not show them to =
any potential customers. A good part of the R & D effort can only occur =
if you live with these new creations for a long time. New departures are =
for personal contemplation, they are not for public display.

Procrastination is the Thief of Time and in this uncertain era your =
chances may be ephemeral.

Best regards, have fun.

In his inimitable and elegant language, Ivor is saying something very
important here. When inspiration hits you, trust yourself. Take lots of
risks as a general practice, and be completely open to discovery. Those
who's studio life is limited by a closed mind miss all the great
possiblities. Open your mind and your eyes to the new and different.

I agree completely about keeping those breakthroughs and discoveries private
for a while. Mull them over, consider the implications, figure out where
they fit into the evolution of your work. At the same time, allow your work
to be steered by the discoveries you make. Don't reject an exciting
discovery because it doesn't "fit" your style or direction. If that is your
attitude, then you are stuck. Get unstuck. Accept every nuance of change
and evolution. Rejoice in discovery and change. That is essential to
studio vitality and equilibrium.
Best wishes -
- Vince
