Hello, any that may remember me still (Russel, Dannon, Janet, Joyce, Vince,=

Bass, Tom Buck, Eleanora, and perhaps more of you old-timers.

I have been in Spain, chez mon fils, for just a week now. Many adventures
getting here, and not very pleasant at that. I was meant to leave Canada on
October 10, but on the way to Vancouver with my friend who was driving me
the last lap to the airport, since my husband had already departed to pick
up my replacement. Unfortunately I was stricken by a gallstone crisis, just
an hour away from the airport. I ended up being taken by ambulance to the
nearest hospital where I spent a week, most of it in a cubby hole in the
basement, the rest in a pedriatric ward (minus the kids) and got rid of
stones, gallbladder and all. Three days after the op. (no big deal
nowadays) I finally took the plane to Frankfurt and then M=E1laga. My cabin
baggage was full of computer stuff; laptop, digicams, endless cables and
power supplies. One kilo overweight. In the end I had to dump the suitcase
and stuff everything into a piece of transparent plastic (courtesy of
Vancouver Airport) which I changed a few minutes later for a long-handled
linen shopping bag. I had to drag that for what seemed miles because I
didn't quite feel up to carrying 8 kilos after having being starved for a
week on a 'clear fluids' diet.
Now, I am waiting for my crate to arrive from Canada with what I managed to
save from my ruined pottery studio. No kilns: had to give one away and
leave my gas updraft standing in its green shed in my ex-yard. Just my
Pacifica and tools, excluding my beloved scales and many other items, should
arrive within the next few weeks. Where to put the stuff? Outside in the
patio I suppose. After all it never rains. Then I have to order a new
kiln, which I imagine will have to be very small and probably electric :(
Oh, I know, one can do many things with an electric kiln, but I really
enjoyed using natural gas.
So...just wish me luck in starting up all over again. It won't be easy and
I'm not getting any younger. At least I now get to see a lot of my little
grandson who turns four in December and has just started school. Yes, they
start early in Spain.
And I have already remembered all my Spanish and am rapidly forgetting
English.
This is getting too long....

Allo Fran=E7oise,

Heureux qui comme Ulysses a fait un beau voyage,
even if you had to undergo surgery before you left
Canada.
I hope you will write more articles on spanish pottery.

Go well!!!

Hello,

I read your email and would like to know more. I just got back from Spain
and would like to settle there. I'm a 'wanna be' potter and I'm thinking
that I'd like to go to school for Ceramics in Spain or be an apprentice if I
can. Once you get settled, I'd be curious to know about the potting
community, etc. Good luck on your adventure!

Julie
