carbon monoxide and venting

I have a 16 ft x 20 ft stand-alone building for a studio, with a gambrel
(barn-like) roof/ceiling. My electric kiln is right next to the double
doors. I do not have any special venting. I had planned to open the
doors, and the windows, and put a fan in the back of the studio, blowing
out. I had not planned to work in the studio during the firing, and do
plan to get a CO detector. Would this be sufficient precaution? Am I
missing something obvious, dangerous? I have never fired by myself
before, and would appreciate any wisdom anyone has to share. I really
appreciated reading the discussion on cones - hopefully saved me a little
bit of heartache.

Patti,
I can see no reason why you should get a CO detector for an electric
kiln. Besides your letter indicates that you are taking all the necessary
precautions, such as keeping doors or windows open and that you do not
intend to remain on the premises during a firing.
No point in letting yourself become paranoid.People have used electric
kilns for a long time. They are quite safe to fire as long as you use some
common sense. Mia in ABQ
