Can anyone recommend a supplier of ceramic fiber block, in the Mid-Atlantic
coast area if possible? I want to consider the cost of rebuilding the door
to my car kiln with this product in order to get a better seal and to
lighten the weight of the door. If anyone has any experience in using this
material any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

John,
I've used Thermal Ceramics' Pyrobloc modules with good success. The ones I
last used were 12"x12"x5" thick with an eyebolt built in the module to bolt
to a heavy duty expanded metal reinforced frame. After installation I
sprayed the modules with itc 100 to seal the fibers. You could call Thermal
Cermamics for more info. for the distributer nearest you. Their Insulating
Products Division is in Augusta, Georgia. Sorry, but I don't have a phone
number handy. You would definitely want to get some installation
instructions if you've never installed modules.

Good luck,
Jim

I like to use Thermal Ceramic blocks. They have warehouse distribution
all over. You may get a location near you by looking at their website.
Depending on where I am working I have gotten the information for purchasing
from one of their regional sales offices off their website.

John was asking about ceramic fiber blocks.

Hi John,
I suggest you investigate having a monolithic block built to
size. Every installation I've seen of pyroblocks got gaposis
pretty bad between them due to inevitable fiber shrinkage.
I built my kiln with a single piece each for walls, roof and door;
in time they too developed gaps but they were all at corners,
where it was pretty deal-withable, not in the middle of the flat
surfaces. I got my modules from an outfit on the west coast but
I'm sure there are furnace refurbishers out east too.
Best,
Jeff
