gas-electric kiln, 2nd post

I left something out of my first glaze firing saga that is probably
important to the control of the reduction. A bit before the sitter popped I
became brave enough to slide the damper brick nearly over the hole and the
flame went into the kiln on the top and the peep showed only a bit of flame,
yellow with blue about an inch instead of yellow and shaggy. Is that what I
should have been doing all along? Should I have controlled it more with the
damper rather than with the regulator valve? I did not like having the
regulator valve operating so close to the cut off of the gas. I am not
feeling very bright at the moment. Lori Pierce in New Port
