The archives no doubt already have this information ad
nauseum, but:

Take a small, measured amount of the glaze you want to
use. Add WALLPAPER PASTE in dry form to the glaze. You
can add the paste to the glaze in the same proportion that
the directions call for WATER. The paste is available at
paint stores, Walmart, etc. Really cheap. Good to have on
hand if you want to reglaze. The glaze can be brushed on
and it will stay where you put it. Discard any unused glaze
with paste in it.

Hair spray look to me the worst material for connection. Being poor artists
our teacher offered us to use hair spray as fixative for our pastel/charcoal
drawing. You make a film between the glaze and the piece. I have two way to
reglaze.
Of coarse worming the work is helpful.
First you don't expect it to be anything but a surprise, unless you repeat
it several times.
Add CMC. My supplier says that his , called "Peptapon", is a special CMC for
ceramics, so ask your supplier for a CMC for ceramics, hard to think that
only my supplier has such a material!
So you add it like for a Majolica glaze. You will apply 1-2 times thin, you
cannot do it thick it will fall off, you need the first layer to be
connected first, to be kind of in between.
There is another way.
Lana Wilson's Dry engobe: You apply it , again I add CMC (they love me at
"Peptapon")
Cover a few times dry between the times. You get what "we" the painters are
having, a canvass you can over paint it again and again. Sometimes, the
color bellow pops up, and sometime, you dump the piece. According to my
experience, you get kind of textural surface. You might try it with your
regular engob too

Dry borax Engobe
06-6
Borax 15
Kaolin 55
flint 30
Lana Wilson offers to add granular rutille but I did not like it
For more details buy her book, She will be glad and you will be happy!

There is a small bottle of a liquid called "Apt II" in which a few drops
added to a small amount of glaze makes the glaze easier to brush on. You
still will have to brush on 2-3 thin coats but the don't crack off the pot as
easily as without it. Found it does a lot better than hairspray.
