talking in class

I think it is a good thing to get students relaxed and talking to each
other. I like to imagine us like a villiage commune...working and chatting.
Rather than rely on a radio to cover the shyness of some (an approach which
never occurred to me), I consider myself being not only an educator but a
conversational facilitator. So I engage people in conversation about
various topics and encourage all to join in. It doesn't take long before my
help is no longer needed to get the conversational ball rolling.
Occasionally I do find there will be someone who tends to dominate the class
with their talk and I have to find a way to quiet them down a bit.
(Hmmmm....a radio?)
