usiing latex wax resist

Fellow potters:
I'm having some problems with latex wax resist over iron wash. The wax does
not shed glaze. Is two coats a sufficient amount of wax and how long does
the wax need to dry? These are the only two factors I can think of that
might enter into the problem I'm having. By the way, i"m glazing tiles
presently but this happens to me on pots too. The glaze sticks to the wax.
Thanks for all your sharing. God bless America!

Carol,
I have the same problem with my wax resist as Winston described. Which brand
have you found that works best? I use it primarily for underglazes.

Thanks,
Jean

The idea of latex wax resist is that you peel the wax resist off to leave
the clear underlying layer.
It can be very thin.

Make sure you dispose of the peeling adequately, AWAY from the reclaim. I
put it straight into the boiler or rubbish basket for burning later.

Hi Winston, I use wax resist all the time and have found different brands resist
differently. I use a mixture of two types I buy at highwater clays right now. I
also wait at least 2 hours for the wax to dry before double dipping. Hope this
helps. Susan

Winston: There is a product called "liquid latex" which is used as a resist
and then peeled away. Its not meant for firing.
More often used is "wax resist", which is applied (one coat is enough), and
is burned out in the firing. When you say "latex wax resist", Im not sure
which product you have.

Some brands of wax resist do not repel a thick glaze. You might try brushing
on your glaze, or thinning it a little. I've tried several brands and have
found a difference.

You might try using wax instead of latex. Peeling latex off anything will
more than likely pull what's underneath.
Re-think your objective in needing to use a resist.
Maybe using paper or plastic as a stencil might serve your purpose better.
