cracking tiles/more specifics

Pat,

Have you looked at the mold carefully to see if there is any type of
undercut in the area where the tiles crack? Simple question, I know,
but shaving or sanding down an edge or two on the mold might fix
things. The other suggestion... are the tiles bending at all upon
removal from the mold? This might weaken a line in the tile which turns
into a crack during drying and firing. Just thinking...

hi
Thanks for responding everyone.
To address things you brought up;
Tiles are dried between two sheets of drywall over 2
to 3 wks.
Tile, design, and everything is pressed.
tiles are a uniform 3/8" with 1/8" relief.
I redesigned one piece with a more shallow relief and
it did the same thing.
The only thing I can think of now is that maybe i'm
not generating enough pressure.
I welcome any suggestions or ideas
Thanks again
Pat

only other thing I can think of, which doesn't seemed to have happened - are
the cracks near sharp changes in outline direction on the 3d design? any
really acute angles? - more likely internal than external angles. I have had
that happen with some of my clock faces (tiles with a hole in - doughnut
tiles...) - in the end I tend to make any complex design separately and
attach with some slip later.
