So what do you do about the flying things? I have a bug zapper that keeps
most of the Junebugs and stuff out of the barn/studio (try keeping your
cool when a junebug has crawled down your shirt as you're bringing up your
cylinder...), BUT-
Yesterday, middle of a beautiful day, I was working on the wheel, barn door
wide open, when a *horsefly* flew straight at me. Now, if you have never
experienced a horsefly, their bit is *terribly* painful! They're the size
of those huge black wood bees we had in the west, and their bite will floor
you!
So, I tried in vain to swat this sucker away, and he kept coming straight
at my head. I scrambled from my wheel, still not used to the idea that I
was on a *kick wheel*. Yep-the wheel base spinning like mad, my feed were
thrown out from under me. I landed with the foot pedal for the motor in my
thigh.
I'm bruised and gouged and needed a tetanus shot, but I *still* don't think
it hurt as bad as the horsefly bite would have!
