A belated comment on this thread: while building my studio addition, =
I used some scrap plywood I had lying around for the countertops. I =
needed to cover it with something better and has some particle board on =
hand. It is terrific for the clay work area. Another 4x8 sheet =
cost $9 and I got two sections out of it. Clay absolutely doesn't =
stick - it's great for wedging and rolling out slabs, drying slabs, or =
setting freshly thrown pots. It's smooth and gentle to the hands. =
For the glaze area I had a cabinet maker use some scrap pieces of =
formica to make enough countertop for 21 feet, and it only cost $100. =
I don't use liquids on the particle board, of course. Hope that's =
of interest to somebody.

Warm thoughts for all,
Hannah

Hannah,

I used MEDX for my work surfaces as you recommended using particle board.
MDF "particle board" is a fine grained product that comes in 4x8 sheets as
does the coarser particle board, and the X stands for exterior which means
that the glue is water resistant. This makes a far superior work surface. Ed
