I too have noticed the gorgeous recipe book photos using unsafe dinner
ware. It tempts me! My bright golden curry would look spectacular on
barium blue plates edged in manganese!

On a more responsible note, last time I was in Pier One Imports I noticed
that their chargers (the decorative plates that never have food contact
-they go under the dinner/salad plate and are just pretty) are now
permanently stampted underneath with a dire warning. I can't remember the
wording exactly but it was rather specific. It's got me tempted to make
such a stamp for my own ware, though I don't use such glazes on usable
looking pieces.

Does anyone else use such stamps on their ware?

Hi Jocelyn,

I still write "Not food safe" on the bottom, even on items not used for
food.
I have a popular vase that would be nearly impossible to use for food and
yet someone picked up one this past weekend and said, " You could put soda
in here and use a straw." I have learned to never underestimate stupid
ideas.... I have learned from a master....namely.... myself!
