cookbook: the adventure begins!

Well, I took all the disks and hauled myself over to my cousin's house =
today, where there's a Graphic Designer in residence and gobs of =
computer toys with which to put this thing together. I now know WHY the =
layout cost on this project was gonna be $3000. =20

First thing out, I ran into translation problems between metric and =
whatever you call the US measurement system. What the hell is 2/3 of a =
kilo in American? :[

Next, I started editing once the layout was finished. Found recipes =
with ?? in place where a number should have been...as in, "? tsp. sugar" =
instead of "3 tsp sugar"! Good thing I know enough about cooking to fix =
MOST of those.

The worst problem of all, however, is my diet. :{ ALL these FOOD =
recipes! They sound so YUMMMMMMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Coconut Lemon Cake, =
Thai Basil Chicken, Texas Red Chili..... Asparagus salad, Peasant Bread. =
If I'm not careful I'll weigh 400 lbs. by the time this is done.

I am learning a lot. Y'all have asked why the images had to be such and =
such a way. Well, the only reason _I_ know is, that's what the printer =
said. But, having tried to work with the images today, I have found =
that the best images are more than 1.5 megs and will have to be on a =
CDRom or Zip disk to get 'em here. No wonder it was taking so long for =
them to download! If you still haven't sent your images, please make =
them be at least 3 x 4", or even 5 x 7! It's much easier to make an =
image smaller than larger - I can only stretch 'em so far before they =
don't look good on paper because they get pixellated.

Ok, that's all the progress report for now. Oh wait. Many have asked =
about how to order the book.

I will be setting that up on a shopping cart this week, I hope. Go =
ahead and plan now, the pre-production price is $22 USD plus shipping =
via priority mail. I wish I had an image of the finished product to =
show ya, but I don't. We don't even know at this point how many =
finished pages we'll have (but there'll be 200 max, with 16 pages in =
color if we get enough print-appropriate images.). Laid out and edited =
30 today; laid out 20 more but not edited yet. Will know more when I =
get all your disks in, and will post a note on Clayart when I get the =
shopping cart set up. :)

Going to bed now 'cuz my eyes are crossed!

Lisa, and anyone else who's interested,

This website gives metric conversions

heehee...thanks. I just thought it was funny that the first problem I ran
into was metric/US conversion.

If it was sent to you in metric, I think you should publish it in metric.
Is this a global effort or just another attempt by Americans to dictate to
the world. On this particular issue we are the ones that are screwed up
anyway. If you feel you must convert, convert it all to metric.

How about printing it in metric the way it was submitted, but also printing
the US measurement equivalent next to it in parenthesis? Just my two cents
worth...

Well, I may actually have to make the final declaration that any dish recipe
made from this cookbook is calorie free.

Lisa (Who actually has some software she could use to put the nutrition
information for each recipe in teh cookbook if it wouldn't take up so much
room and time.)

Well, a calorie is a measure of heat...
Can we add up the number of calories in the
recipes, factor in the time needed to eat them,
and arrive at a cone value for the whole book?
