When I wrote:

In a sad way, when the man came to MacKenzie’s showroom, asked which
pots were his, and then bought only those, it IS the same as a man going to
a hardware store, asking where the “Crescent” wrenches are, and then buying
them.

I really hadn't thought it through. The two stories do not actually
demonstrate the same thing. When we buy a Crescent brand wrench, we expect a
certain quality, because we want the wrench to help us do work, and we want
it to last. When the man bought the multiple MacKenzie's, he may have
expected quality, but only because it brings him wealth or status, not for
the intrinsic use or beauty of the object.

That's all,

Of course the funny thing about this man that was supposed to have only
bought MacKenzie pots is that we actually have no idea what his
motivating factor was, we can only speculate.

Perhaps he was on an errand with a shopping list, eight potters at home
that he was supposed to get Warren MacKenzie pots for.....
