If you receive any orders from People's Pottery BEWARE
I sent the following email to the Rosen Group. Hindsite being 20/20, I
should have called all references listed and any more I could think of
instead of feeling 'head in the clouds' wonderful due to receiving a large
order from a store I've loved and patronized for years.

> Dear Rosen Group
>
> My name is Kim Marie of Kim Marie Fine Pottery. In February I participated
> in your show for the very first time as a part of the Syracuse Ceramic
> Guild. I was quite thrilled to come away from the show with over $18,000
> worth of orders.
>
> The largest order I had was from People's Pottery and was for over
$13,000.
> I had 2 delivery dates and I was close enough so I could save them
shipping
> fees by delivering my work (2 hour drive). My first date was March 15th
and
> the second was May 15th. I knew this would be difficult because they only
> will pay by net 90. But I didn't want to refuse the order.
>
> At this point they have received over $9,500 of my work. My first payment
> of $1998 was due on the 11th and a second bill for over $7500 is due on
> August 12th. When I hadn't received the payment, I called and was told I
> probably would not be paid until July and maybe not until August due to
> investors not coming through.
>
> I am a one-woman studio. I thought I'd made it to the big time with their
> order. I devoted 3 months exclusively to filling a major portion of their
> order Now I might go out of business because all my expenses have been
> incurred and I'm having trouble making payments to the electric company
and
> credit card companies used to purchase clay and materials for their order.
> It was bad enough to have to wait 90 days but I had budgeted that out.
Now
> because they won't pay, not only is my business in trouble, so is our
> household since the contributions I make toward these expenses are
necessary
> for our own survival.
>
> This is not a hobby for me or just a job for the extras in life. This is
> what I do for a living!
>
> Might you have any suggestions for me? What should I do now? I never
> thought a big corporation would do this to somebody.
>
> Thank you for your time,
> Kim Marie
>
> Kim,
> You should post this message on the bulletin board at
> http://www.craftsreport.com.
> Also call Jim Dempster at Manufacturers Credit Cooperative immediately
> 972.422.7852.
> I'm sorry that the guild didn't know more about this company. We are
unable
> to comment
> due to threat of legal action.
