glaze tests: general

Dear Clayart,
After much testing and sorting out, I am satisfied with a few good =
glazes I use routinely in my studio, for
food surfaces. They are among others, Tony Hansen's 20x5 base with =
adjustments. This glaze I use as a liner
glaze for all of my drink ware and eating surfaces.

Now, as I am moving along to more personal work along side my production =
work, I am looking for more=20
personal surfaces. Therefore I am working again with slips. I want =
more texture and less gloss. I have listed
several successful slips for this purpose, all of which worked under my =
clear and other glazes I use for decorative
use.

I tested a few of Mary Barringer's slips and glazes that were listed in =
April's Ceramic Monthly. I found them in general to
be nice looking. However, the glassy slip, although I tested it, has 80 =
Lithium Carb. I found through testing simple tests=20
with Borax and a range variables, I found very satisfactory slips with =
the surface I want, without highly hazardous materials.
Many of the slips with a clear glaze over that fits, will give a very =
similar effect of the the Glassy slip, avoiding the use of
Lithium carb.

Hope there is something you can test or try.

I am happily flying over the pond tomorrow, so if anyone would like to =
respond to any of the tests, please copy me or write directly to my =
private email address mailto:aliskin@mail.dk. =20
Hope everyone enjoys a good two weeks and best regards until then,
Alisa in Denmark

PS I am also very happily carrying a finished urn. That was the =
fastest turnaround for a remake I have ever done.. but I think it looks =
all right.
