I have found a short workshop I want to attend in
Portland, OR this summer, by a potter named Joel Cottett
(www.leftofcenterschool.org)
He throws very large (beyond belief) on the wheel.
I wondered if anyone else has taken this workshop
and if they would email me off clayart to relay
their experiences.
Thanks.

I just received an email with the message that Joel Cottett passed away
early
this morning.
His studio is located in Beverton, OR. and his specialty was throwing huge
sculptures and pots. His website address is: www.leftofcenterschool.org
for a view of his studio, work and a recorded message about his style.
His son Gabe worked with him.

If you are interested in sending a condolence to his son the address is:
Gabe and Katie Cottett

He had an energy beyond that of anyone I have ever met about clay.
He would throw large amounts of clay as much as five hundred pounds
using marshal art techniques, specific body mechanics and controlled
breathing. He was a considerate and patient teacher, mentor and friend.
He will be missed by those of us who knew him and were influenced
by his teaching.
Rest in Peace Joel,
