Hi all
I know this is a reaccuring thread, how do you get photos on clay... i have
searched the archives but am not seeing what I need...
My question is for a neighbor who just lost her son, she wants to put a color
photo of him on the gravestone, it is important to her that it is color,
because he had beautiful red hair... She has gone to the mortuary, who can
do this, transfer a color photo onto a porcelin oval that will be attatched
to the gravestone... for a mear 500.00!! just for the photo on the porcelin!

Does anyone know of someone who does this type of thing... that she could
send the photo or negagive to and they could help her out for less than 500
bucks?

I appreciate any help you all could give here, this is a sad thing, and I
would like to be able to do something to help out, just don't know where to
start.

Well, help is at hand, but over here in The Potteries.
But there is a contact Stateside to help.
Stuart Jones has sent me two posts recently, catching up on earlier ones of
mine:-
1
Further thought, apart from any obvious American enquiries which as I said
previosly I pass on to our men in Cleveland and LA
I have taken the line to ask any other anonymous email contacts for their
country so that I can help them locally apart from weeding out the
competition.
I can think of one at least who did not respond as far as I am aware.

Re Bob Hanlin - sounds as though he found the Die sublimation version of
Digital printing these colours are bright and attractive but are not UV
stable and are not Ceramic, they scratch easily apart from fading in the
light.

I have emailed him with this guess and our address if he wants to persue
anything with us.

And the second was:-
Apologies for the missing answers, I obviously need more help, especially
when my travelling gets in the way !

Re decals - we normally charge £10 per sheet of A3 decal plus £30 per hour
to cover corrective work if incoming artwork or photographs are sub
standard or very difficult.
We would advise in advance if work was required, not after the event, we
can also help with the finished product if the run is too big for you.

Web site I have heard nothing in the past weeks but will check on Monday
and let you know

Firing range - Decals will fire from 720c to 820c - often higher in fast
fire kilns eg 960c cold to cold in 90 minutes.

With a flux overprint decals should pass the
Californian lead release rules and also dishwasher resistance
tests.
Decals suitable for stoneware
/earthenware/porcelain (but not in the same kiln at the same time)

To achieve success at this standard the potter
has to realise that he controls the firing and kiln contents, these need
management rather than total ignorance as it is
a chemical reaction he is controlling.

I hope we are back on course now -

Best regards,
from a travel stained Stuart,

ps we stunned the French last week !!!
Limoges may never be the same again !

Stuart Jones E-mail is STUARTJONES6@compuserve.com;
I posted a lot of information about his work just recently.
