adding something on top of glaze

A customer of mine wanted several of my Christmas plates personalized with the recipient's name and her name as a donor. I went to a hobby ceramic place and bought a bottle of an overglaze and was able to print the desired info and fire it--I think ^04-whatever the label said. I think it was Duncan. I am a 'guest' on my son's computer in Rhode Island (:>) . I think the product was a one-stroke, but not positive. Hope this will help you.

Sonya,

There are a couple of possibilities.

Overglaze enamels can be utilized on top of a glaze. They are very low
firing glazes that are very viscous and stay where you put them, but sint=
er
down into the existing glaze surface so are pretty durable. Also often
called "china paints". Amaco has the VersaColor series. Many suppliers
handle Amaco stuff..... Laguna dealers do for sure. They fire in the 017 =
-
015 range. =

Watch for lead and cadmium in some overglazes/china paints..... make sur=
e
you get the ones that don't have them.......as much for you handling them=

as for the end user.

A few manufacturers have numerous "non-firing" surface treatments too. =

Check with your supplier.

Best,
