Hello,

Well we know that GB will soon be making an encore performance. They were=

allot of work being done with alternatives so I hope that many of you wil=
l
continue doing research and posting your results. I have some questions. =
:)

I don't think the frit I posted (F439)would be a one to one replacement i=
n all
glazes but I did say it replaced one to one in the formulation I sent in.=
I
thought about this after I sent it and it could appear mis-leading! But t=
ake
into consideration the fact that I added other materials to the mix which=
just
happened to have a very similar analysis for that particular glaze. Raku
glazes are currently my latest energy robbers and time consumers since I =
am
currently building two new kilns for our studio and constantly exploring
potential glazes and new research ideas. (Hyper-active children become
hyper-active adults, just ask me)

The magic bullets are hard to find. Frit has no LOI and GB does so the
conversion factor is done in heat work. Now if we can do a complete analy=
sis
of LOI on GB and then match apples to apples against our frits it might o=
pen
some areas to explore. Tom Buck currently comes to mind on this if he has=
a
chance to respond. (Tom are you listening?)

Do you or anyone here have the fired analysis (unity/weight) of GB at or =
above
the melt point to compare it to the raw state of GB? If it exists on the =
web I
have over-looked it. With a high LOI I would like exact information on wh=
ich
materials are going up in smoke so I can look at some variations in frit
material replacements where some mixtures can be made. I would also need =
to
know the end point where LOI is finished. If the materials in GB start lo=
sing
compounds through combustion at cone 010 and have depleted or finished LO=
I at
04 +/- that would help me understand how to better judge the frits out th=
ere
such as 439 and its reaction in a glaze.

Another way to look at it also is frit has no LOI and GB does so we can t=
ake
frit as it stands without using theory for the loss. Now this means we ne=
ed to
once more know what stands once GB has went through firing and see which =
RM's
is lost. Replacing the LOI materials through calculations and changing th=
e
percentages of frit would then play heavy on the out-come of exact matche=
s.
Any news is good news! I am confusing myself here this early in the a.m.
also... It boils(pun)down to weight and materials left that can be matche=
d by
increasing or decreasing the substituted material. And adding the correct=

player to the team for a winning finish. I like OM-4 when I can use it. G=
ood
for helping suspension also! Any suggetions/ideas??
