Hi Sue,
How do you protect the foot of the pot? Does wax resist survive a 3-5
minute soda soak? Or do you soak the pot upside down?
Thanks.
Best regards,
Carol

Hi Sue,
I always figured the soda ash solution would make the pot stick to the shelf
because that's what I had read on Clayart. (See Archives "Re:???Soda wash
will stick" Oct-Nov 1999 and "Re: Fake Flashing", Oct 1999.)

And if anyone is worried about their elements, see "Re:Soda Ash/bicarb
(fwd)" 11 Nov 1999 by Tom Buck.

Best regards,
Carol

Hi Carol,

The foot has never been a problem--I soak it right along with the rest of
the pot, and place it right on the kiln shelf. Am I creating a problem for
myself that I don't know about?

Sue

Hello Carol.
You can deep the foot in hot paraffin!

Dear Carol;

You can wax the foot before you soak the piece. The soda will come
to the unprotected part of the pot to form the glaze. You can use this
technique to decortate as well.

Good Luck, Hank

I'm not Sue. but when I use the soda ash on my pots I treat them like
they were going into a salt or wood kiln, I mix some alumina hydrate
with white glue, and then dunk small "wads" of clay in the alumina glue
mixture and glue them to the bottom of the pot. The alumina has always
prevented sticking for me.
