Today I took a field trip with my class, instead of a
final exam...we went to Scripps College to look at the Marer
Collection...
There is evidently a new website for the collection.
I got into the site once to start looking around and my computer
won't take me back...but be patient...give it time...
but perhaps take a look.
http://web-kiosk.Scrippscollege.edu/

It is an interesting collection for a number of reasons...
It reflects work from the Otis group/translate that to mean
the folks in L.A. in the 50's who were working with
Voulkous in a dynamic time...
That included Kenneth Price, Jun Kaneko, Paul Soldner
and easily 1000 pieces...and it is an amazing experience
to be able to touch a Marilyn Levine...tap it and hear
the ring of vitrified clay, and remain stunned that it
looks like leather.
It is also interesting to see early work by an artist, and
compare the current work...and see the choices made in
the journey.
Also work has been added to the collection over
the 50 years of collecting.
So the site is just now being assembled...
have fun,
bamboo karen
