rebuild kiln, smaller

Cat,

A ***hairbrained idea*** here but, yes, build a modified train kiln w/ th=
e flue & stack exiting from the middle/back & 2 fireboxes, one on each en=
d. This concept may not be in conformance with generally accepted practi=
ce for wood fired kilns, but since you want temporary, this kiln would be=
fired with bottled propane, requiring a smaller firebox area.
The kiln would be loaded from the top, with a lid made from 5 12"x24" kil=
n shelves, and soft brick (IFB). After loading the kiln, the kiln shelve=
s for the lid are placed on top, and IFB placed on the two end shelves ov=
er the fireboxes. ***A piece of stainless steel (SS) sheet, cut to fit, =
is placed over the middle three shelves. This becomes a cooking surface =
(used while the kiln is heating up) which can be removed and replaced wit=
h IFB when cooking is done.*** The firing then continues to completion. =
The following day while the kiln is cooling (about 500 F), the SS is rep=
laced and used again as a cooking surface. (It may be necessary to fire =
down, depending on the available residual heat from cooling. &:>)

I would love to build something temporary and small enough to pass for a =
large grill to my too close neighbors. A friend said build it square... a=
ny more ideas floating around out there?

Thanks all!
