Off topic, as much as "Herding Cats", but cats are smart enough (most of
them) to make friends with people who DO things, like make pots.

We have (most of us) heard the expression "Pussy-footing"- I have seen the
perfect illustration- We have a large (18 lb), Black, affectionate cat that
is 23 watts short of a 25 watt bulb, in the brains department. My Daughter
(for some reason) named him Cricket. He was banned to the outside, after
one too many episodes of forgetting where the "pot" was. Outside is roomy,
on Persimmon Hill.

I was standing on the front deck, revelling in a bright spring day, when I
saw Cricket giving the perfect illustration of the phrase. He was on the
rock shelf beside the front walk (about 3 inches above the walk) and would
freeze in place, look down right and left, then , very tentatively, stick
one foot out, slowly, reach ahead, and slowly, take one step. He was not
stalking- he was clearly wary, and puzzled. I watched him do this for
several steps, then looked ahead of him to the end of the rock ledge.
There, enjoying the sun as much as I- was a beautiful Garter Snake.

Cricket knew there was something there, but didn't know what, or where, and
the ledge was just high enough to hide the snake from his view. The snake
knew very well where Cricket was, and - silently slid away into the
Cinquefoil without poor Cricket ever knowing.

Now, THAT was "Pussy-footing"

Bill,on Persimmon Hill- where (I swear) this happened.
