Hi Will and all,

I fired some glaze tests on Wednesday and thought I would share
the results with the group since Alisa and others have been so kind
as to share theirs. I won't take the time to type the recipes since
they are all in the Clayart archives, but here's what I found using
KPS white stoneware, KPS Grolleg porcelain, Highwater ^5
procelain:

Edwards 1.2.3.4 Glossy Glaze Base

I tried this over textured stoneware stained with a RIO/Redart/water
stain, brushed on and wiped off with wet sponge. I love the feel of
the fired glaze and it worked beautifully with the RIO stain. I plan
to try over some underglaze stains and colored slips. This one is a
keeper. I also tried it with additions of 4% titanium,4% Mason
stain 6002, and 4% tin over stoneware. It was a mottled hare's fur
effect in pink and white, and would probably look even better on
porcelain. I also tried it with additions of 0.8% cobalt oxide and 8%
rutile on a small stoneware test bowl. It was a beautiful
blue/grey/cream mottling, with nice pooling in
the bottom of the bowl. No crazing at all so far on any of these.

I also tried the Edwards 1.2.3.4 Matte base over the same
stoneware with RIO stain. I may have gotten the glaze too thin, as
it had sort of a rough texture. I will try this one again. I also tried
this one with additions of 8% praseodymium, 4% light rutile and
1% RIO, but didn't like the result.

I tried the Edwards' Rosenrot Red (original version) over a
carved porcelain t-bowl and a stoneware bowl. The porcelain was
much nicer, with a soft greyed burgundy - (sort of like the color you
get when you mix red & green in watercolor).

The Edwards Rosenrot variation as posted by Mary Ella Yamashita
- the color was a little brighter than the original version, and this was
also over porcelain.

The Edwards' Red #3 was the best of the three I tested. I didn't
test this on porcelain, but it was really nice on the stoneware bowl,
so I expect it would look even better on porcelain.

I also tested Paul Lewing's Raspberry Base with 10% addition of
Mason Stain 6006 on porcelain, and it was beautiful with some
blue opalescence in places. On stoneware, it was flat and
uninteresting.

I fired all of this in the same load, to ^6 with a 30 minute soak, then
fired down, flipping one switch at a time until all were off. I don't
know if all that is necessary, but my glazes seem to like it better.
