carbon trapping wax and red

Hey all,
I found this interesting so I wanted to share. Recently, I read a =3D
post mentioning waxing overtop a shino glaze before firing. I tried it =3D
and it was amazing, I have no idea why but it leaves marks, orange to be =
=3D
exact with a charcoal line around it (carbon trapping I assume). =3D20

Well anyway, I figured it wouldn't hurt to wax some other pieces one of =3D
which was a nice red glaze I have. I was having problems with it =3D
trapping carbon and turning maroonish grey in areas but where it didn't =3D
go grey it was a nice deep red. I put a couple of brush strokes on it =3D
and loaded it in the kiln. =3D20

This morning I unloaded and here was this red pot with these shadows =3D
around where I had waxed, darkest around where the wax had been fading =3D
outward. And the waxed area was nice and bright. =3D20

Just found it interesting. When I have time I'll post a picture on my =3D
site. chris

Chris, PRetty cool when you wax on shino, eh? When
you wax, the resist affects the migration of the sodas
on the surface-I think? Like to see your picture!
