cynthia bringle address

I can't help it. Whenever someone is chastised for answering
a question submitted to Clayart it rankles me.
Often when a question is asked, several others also want to
know the answer, and we all know what the delete button is for,
if one is not interested in the subject.

As for Cynthia Bringle's address and phone number being 'private',
we are talking about her gallery. It's a business number and
address. She advertises them, they're listed on all the Penland area
craft guides, and the exact location and address is pinpointed on the
potter's map of the area. She wouldn't be promoting her address if
she didn't want it shared.

I believe that it is very bad form (and outright invasion of privacy) to
post a private address and/or phone number to the list when an individual
Clayart member has requested that address and/or phone number. It is
perfectly easy to send the address and/or phone number directly to the
individual who has requested it, and thereby save one more post to Clayart
which will be meaningless to the rest of us. Well known people like Ms.
Bringle often greatly value their privacy. This ain't like sharing a glaze
recipe.

Dave,
I believe that the first response was her home address and phone number, and
that was what bothered me. If it had just been her gallery address, then of
course we would be doing her a favor to offer free advertising. I responded
as I did because this has happened before on Clayart, and I have been
appalled that anyone could be so insensitive as to broadcast to the entire
list a private address and/or phone number. I would hope that every Clayart
member would have better sense.

And please note that I did not name any names in my response. I simply
posted a message stating my concern.

Dorothy -
My appologies for what seemed to be directed at you. There was nothing in
your post indicating that the address was not her home, and I guess that
your post simply set me off because of a number of previous responses to
other requests, where home addresses and/or phone numbers were provided
on-list. Something needed to be said, but my irritation was misplaced in
this instance.
