stacking dinnerware/shelf wash

Hey:

I use crystar and advancer shelves and fire to cone 10 flat and I also do
my fair share of dinner settings in Porcelain so maybe I can pass on some
info to Rikki.

The wash that I use is 75% alumina hydrate and 25% kaolin. I spray on a
thin coat. With porcelain, the results are better if you spray the
wash. No bumps and uneven areas to worry about just a nice flat surface
for your pots. I was tipped off to this method by Tom Turner.

For the dinnerware, I use Acme Marls plate setters for the dinner and salad
plates. I have 12 X 24 inch shelves and I stack two of them together for a
24 X 24 inch area. My kiln stacks 4 shelves deep so basically I use two 24
X 24 inch cubes. In one 24" cube area I stack two settings of dinner
plates 4 high, so there is one on the shelf with 3 setters on top. I get 8
plates to a 24" cube. I can stack jars and other stuff in between the
setters, usually 6 pieces. The salad plates will stack 16 to a cube. One
on the shelf and three setters over that and I get 4 of these stacks to a
24 X 24" area. I use both the advancers and crystars to do this and I've
had zero warping. I haven't flipped some of the crystars in over 10 years
and they are flat and true.

Is there a difference in how Crystars and Advancers look? I
bought some shelves used and LOVE them but don't know what they
are. They are 1/4" thick and have a slightly shiny very smooth
surface. Glaze comes off them easily so I've never put wash on.
The corners are rounded. What are they?
