gerstley borate......again

Recently there have been some posts regarding the sale of gerstley borate.

While I think it may be a noble gesture on the part of the sellers, and I
really have no qualm whatsoever with them, my real concern is with those who
buy the material. Short sighted at best.

While you may buy a few pounds or even buy the entire lot, it doesn't
matter. When its gone, its gone. You may be able to extend the sales of what
ever glaze and forms use it, but the material is history.

The point is to move on. Many companies are working with new formulations
that will probably provide the surface, flocculation, and whatever else the
old material did as well as the colors you want. You will just have to test,
test, and retest, and extend you brain power a bit, push the envelope and
learn some new things.

Dependency on the old material is at best, only a very temporary solution.
