Mel, your posting was good, concrete advice.

I find it not unusual that companies will recommend only the solution to a
problem that they sell. For example, a company that sells elements pointed
out to me that ITC costs as much or more than a new set of elements and
that it may be more cost effective to buy a more elements than to use ITC.
When asked about using ITC, the manufacturer of my electric kiln told me
that I should use their kiln venting system to suck the nasties out of
there before they attack the elements. I will admit that the fumes coming
from the top peephole are beginning to corrode the lid handle, which is
directly above it.

If your only tool is a hammer, all problems look like nails.
