My teacher's daughter Yoshiko, asked me who I was voting for during the Noborigama firing just before the elections. She
is a glass blower. I said I was going to vote for Gore. She asked me if Minnesota was liberal and I said, "Yes, we've never as a
state, voted for Reagan or Bush." When I worked at the Loft, a writer's center, we distributed pens with a similar phrase on it.
It was thought these two would be bad for the arts. She said she thought that Bush would be better for the Japanese economy and
several other Japanese agreed with her. Gore, like Mondale , was more interested in issues related to Art and Crafts.

Joan Mondale visited the Shimaoka pottery when Fritz was the Ambassador to Japan. The Mondales have done a lot to
help the crafts in America. Joan is a potter. Do you remember? They had John Glick tableware made when he was the VP.
