another question l&l vs skutt

I am planning to replace an old, old Paragon (didn't even make kiln sitters when
this thing was built) I'm leaning toward the L&L with upgrades myself, but does
anyone have experience with the controllers - and do these things have a manual
option - expecially if the controller is not working? I have a hard time believing
a digital controller is going to last as long as either a Skutt or L&L and I fear
they will be very expensive to replace. Plus there are times when I just want to
ramp based on "how things are looking" - the old eyeball method, don't know why,
just prefer it sometimes. Then there are the last minute, night before the show
firings that would really be a problem if the controller was down (and I do a lot
more of those firings than I care to admit! ;-)) Nita
