I like to hear about that sort of stand. The fact that they capitulated =
shows the virtue of you philosophy.
When there is an incentive to write or produce illustrations then there =
is competition. Perhaps the competition is proportional to the =
incentive. Which may explain why some pottery and ceramic magazines =
continue to flourish for decades while others lapse into oblivion after =
a short life.
Payment from most magazines is modest because circulation is limited but =
it is there to be had for those who wish to become authors or =
illustrators. And it is an incentive which keeps the quality of writing =
on a higher plane than it might be if there were no rewards.=20
