Dear ML
I tested one of Paul Lewing's glazes called Raspberry base. From the =
name only, I was thinking this was base designated for staining. I =
tested it only as a base and it was a stable, clear glaze, with some =
crystals where thickest. If Paul happens to read this, perhaps he can =
clarify if this is a base for staining.

21 Whiting

8 Talc
8 Gerstley Borate

Best regards,

Yes, Alisa, that base was designed specifically to be a good pink with
Cr/Sn Mason stains. It's a matte at cone 4, where I fire it, might be a
gloss at cone 6. You need lots of CaO to make good pinks from those
stains, so Hansen's 5x20 is also a good choice. I wasn't really going
to respond to this thread, but I was pretty sure someone would mention
this glaze of mine. My advice would have been 1) read the Mason stain
chart, 2) buy a few ounces of one of the stains that meet your
circumstances, 3) try it in a bunch of glazes, 4) observe, record,
remember.
