To any NCECA -goers that plan to travel to the coast during their trip to NC,
I'd like to invite you to pass through Florence (via 1-20) and visit Bob
Chance's exhibit at Francis Marion University. Bob is on the faculty of
Furman University in Greenville, S. C.
FMU gallery hours are usually 9-5 Mon thru Fri, but I'd be glad to make some
special arrangements for those of you passing through on your way to SC
beaches. Email me off list to let me know. Visit our website to see a
sample of Bob's work...www.fmarion.edu/famc/gallery.htm.

Here's something about two shows in North Carolina that will be up during
NCECA.

The first one I'm in! It will be at the Carillon Building in Charlotte, which
is near where NCECA is being held. The address is 227 West Trade Street. The
show opens March 19 and runs through July 31st, and there may be an opening
for it during NCECA - check your conference packets. The show is titled
"Industrial Evolution" and the artists in it are: Michael Knox, Ralph Paquin,
Paula Smith, David Hooker, Kirk Mangus, and me, Beverly Crist. I'll be
showing five slab-built vessels with glaze painting. I think most of the
other work is sculptural. I hope every one going to NCECA gets a chance to
take a look. If a web-site is posted I'll let the list know, I don't have one
for myself.

And then secondly, I just got an announcement in the mail for "National Clay
Invitational" at the Blue Spiral Gallery in Asheville, N.C. This looks like a
spectacular show. It runs March 2nd - April 21st. Blue Spiral Gallery, 38
Biltmore Ave., Asheville, 828-251-0202, www.bluespiral1.com. Asheville isn't
that far from Charlotte and has a number of excellent craft galleries like
the one at the Grove Park Inn, New Morning, and Bellaggio. It'd make a great
day trip.

Beverly Crist - I'm off to a race walk clinic in San Luis Obispo this weekend
- in the rain. Any one want to walk with me at NCECA? I'm just skinny, not
fast.
