dear liz: In my last trip down memory lane i forgot to answer your specific
question. what does the artist in residence do?I guess it depends on the
person but for us they will get the full monty. I think the chance to work
along 15 other potters for l, 2 or 3 weeks will be EXHAUSTING. We will eat
drink and sleep pots. Our role as i understand is to facilitate events. As
I am closer to the date I'm going to contact each participant to find out
what they do, and what they are best at and what they want to do.. That way
everyone does some kind of a mini workshop/slideshow, talk. I know that
Elizabeth Priddy has applied and I am thrilled. I have gained a lot of
respect for the babe over the clayart airwaves. Have you looked at her
website and seen that brushwork? I will ask E.P to bring the brushes. Laurie
Rolland is there in the third week and I have just seen her boat forms at
Harbinger Gallery and in CM. I want to torch one in the wood kiln.
For me it is going to be a chance to get out of my little 250 sq. foot cubby
hole and throw some biggish ware while I am still able. After 50 know knows.
The luxury of 10,000 square feet of a historic clay industry setting. I'm
going to try to fill it all by my lonesome.
sheila on the other hand is recently doing some combination throwing and
handbuilding lids, spouts, handles which are really looking very fine. She
will have the luxury of focusing on them- no phones, no customers, no fax,
no interuptions.
I guess in short I see our role quite simply as this- Pull up a chair! Stay
for a minute, an hour, the day. I'll work and we can talk. Need some help?
sure I'll be right over to your studio.
cheers,
Tony
