kiln atmosphere

Has anyone tried firing their electric kiln in a neutral atmosphere such as
argon? Among many other things, I'm a welder (person who can/does weld, not
the equipment ;-) and argon for inert gas welding is cheap. A few cubic
feet per hour, barely a trickle, should be sufficient to displace all the
oxygen once the initial volume is purged by a larger flow.

Being neutral (argon is a noble gas, devilishly hard to get it to compound
with anything at all), it should not hurt the elements or firebrick.

Standard cautions apply. You can breath argon, but it won't do you any
good.

Bottled water is more expensive than gasoline.
