On April 6, 7, and 8 (a week after NCECA) the Appalachian Center for Crafts
will host a soda-firing workshop with Gail Nichols, reknown Australian
soda-firing potter. Gail is one of the world's foremost experts on soda
firing, and there was a a good article on her work in CM last year.

Participants will bring bisque-fired stoneware and/or porcelain pots. The
workshop will begin in the afternoon on Friday, when we will decorate and
glaze pots and load our 60-cubic foot hardbrick salt/soda kiln. We will
start firing that kiln right away on Friday night. For anyone unable to
arrive until later, on Saturday morning we will also load our 20 cubic-foot
softbrick flat-top soda kiln (the one that Mel Jacobson and Meagan Kieffer
built a few years ago), and fire it off. On Sunday afternoon we will unload
the pots and talk about the results. During the day on Saturday and on
Sunday morning while the kilns are firing and cooling, Gail will do slide
shows and demos and lead discussions about soda firing technology.

It will be an especially exciting weekend, because Saturday April 7 is our
annual FACCT (Friends of the Appalachian Center for Crafts) Celebration, and
there will be a craft fair, live music, all sorts of food, and other
activities.

This will be a wonderful workshop. I do not have the workshop costs or
other information here at home, but I will get them and post them within the
next few days Or, anyone wanting further information can email our
secretary Gail Dost at gdost@tntech.edu or our Workshop and Events
Coordinator Jane Morgan Dudney at jdudney@tntech.edu

It would be such a pleasure to see a bunch of you at the workshop.
Best wishes -
- Vince
