digital camera help and thanks, california bound next week (longish)

Tuesday we leave to see the proverbial little old lady in Pasadena, =
my husband's mother. 93 and still going strong intellectually! I hope =
the audio tape on learning Spanish arrives before we leave, so we can =
give it to her as a birthday gift. At any rate, I'll be out of =
commission for a while.
Before we go, I wanted to thank all clayarters who wrote in about =
digital cameras and close ups--as well as all those on the archives who =
wrote a while back. It's so great to have that feedback, and I do =
appreciate it. Well, CNC finally decided to spend the money fund in the =
IRA and get herself an Olympus 3030. WOW............whatta fantastic =
toy (and marketing tool). You can only focus from 8" or further, but if =
you use a higher resolution for cropping afterwards, you're just fine. =
No time to play with that aspect, but I took all sorts of photos =
Thursday night under normal house lighting and was impressed with the =
accuracy of the color, except for one celadon piece. Anything I took =
that night looked better without flash, by the way, with color more =
accurate. I just set the camera to indoor lighting for that first =
night of experimenting, and it wasn't bad at all. Can hardly wait to =
play with the quartz lamps now and the new camera. All those who aren't =
yet in the loop of the digital cameras (as I was before Thursday night) =
have to think quite differently when they start digitally. When I asked =
Clayart about the close ups, I wan't even thinking about the =
possibilities of post picture taking tweaking and editing and cropping. =
Duh.......... And yet that's really an integral part of the digital =
picture. You can tell, guys, that I'm hooked, except of course for jury =
slides, etc. I guess that website will be next after much =
procrastination. =20
I put two old mini pottery groups on E bay last week with scanned =
photos. What I did was start with my old wholesale price as a starting =
bid. We'll see! I'll also try a couple of bigger things some day, but =
as someone pointed out, there are so many listings that your things tend =
to get lost unless there is a way to make them stand out. With minis =
the shipping is very simple, and I imagine the same would be true for =
other small items. Any comment? I put things on E bay which I found =
in cleaning and sorting this winter, so they are not my treasured =
pieces and are worth the small risk. Big, expensive pieces may be a =
pain to ship, I have a feeling. I'll keep you posted for those =
entering the new marketing for the new millennium. And feel free to =
post me (after Calif.) about the new Olympus. I have a feeling I will =
be in the ranks of all of those who write so enthusiastically about the =
digitals. Thanks again. Carolyn aka CNC
