Jennifer tells us her liner glaze doesn't get those tea/coffee stains.
Even my commercial cups get them, never seen one that didn't..
Jennifer, can you share that liner glaze recipe and how you fire it?

Hello, Lesley

I, too, am wondering why a glossy liner glaze with a good surface would get
tea and/or coffee stains. I don't know whether my dark glazes get stains,
because I'm sure I wouldn't see if they did. My white glaze doesn't stain,
though. I drink a lot of tea, chocolate--hardly any coffee, but I've never
even thought about stains until it was mentioned here because I haven't had
a problem.

I wonder if using the cup in a microwave oven often might make stains more
likely? I always heat my water on the stove, and might warm my drink up in
the microwave, but I think the water is better heated in a tea kettle--for
the sake of taste. But maybe the process of cooking fixes the tannic acid
(and other things--minerals, etc.) to the sides of the cup.

At any rate, I use Tony Hansen's 5X5 glaze with 7% Zircopax. That gives me a
semi-opaque finish, which I like, but you can certainly add more Zircopax.
It's an easy glaze to try, and maybe it won't stain for you.

Here's the Recipe
It Ron Roy adjusted version of
Temple White Cone 10
g200 feldspar 4500
dolomite 2850
wollastonite 600
epk 3750
flint 3300

Insert decimals as needed
When I say it doesn't get stains, I mean the kind of stains that
require Comet to get out. They get dirty, but are easily cleaned...

Take Care
