two questions: black clay & firing leaves

I have two questions I am hoping someone can help with:

1) I have fallen in love with Standard Ceramic's Dark Brown ^6 clay,
#266. But I am having trouble with it in the glaze kiln - bloating at
even a low cone 6. It's not completely regular - a couple pieces out of
a kiln load - Any ideas? Anyone else had this problem? I don't want to
give up this clay, but firing a special kiln load for it to a lower temp
(with lower temp glazes) just isn't in the cards.

2) I am interested in firing leaf imprints into tenmoku glazes, and
wonder if anyone has firing leaves (actually leaving the leaf in the
glaze) in an electric kiln to cone 6 or 7. I did this once in a bisque
and ended up with a kiln full of ash - would this happen at cone 6, or
would the ash burn up? Also, shells in an electric kiln? As in, leave
the shells lying on the glaze to burn up & affect the glaze? Anyone done
this? Messy?

Thanks in advance -
