Great! I am absolutely amazed at your attitudes toward this delay, which
WAS due to technical difficulties while our blessed tech guy had to be
away. You were wonderful! It embarrasses me to recall how I reacted on
occasions when I received no Clayart before taking on acting moderator
duties ... I e-mailed all over the world literally to find out if others
were receiving their e-mail.... and wrote the moderator numerous times!
Shameful. Did make lots of new friends during such times of stress and
withdrawal, though.

Mel has a great idea! When we're truly off line for an undetermined
time, he'll post the situation on the Clayart section of his web site!
He did this time, but of course, nobody knew to check in, although a few
did ... only because they were checking for something else.

In the Mojave where I'm so excited about Clayart coming through (I'd
been fearful that it would be Tuesday, not today) I threw the good,
sweet grapes (expensive!) to the wild rabbits, instead of the sour ones
..... by mistake. They're munching madly as I write.... Did you see Janet
Reno on Saturday Night Live? DANCING??????

Hi Joyce,

I just wanted to let you know that it was really hard
not having Clayart over the weekend but that I am now OK!
The withdrawal symptoms are wearing off!

Joyce,
What are you talking about? Here it is Tuesday.

Well hello everyone!

I signed off about a month ago thinking I'd sign back on right after I came
back from a short trip but then my life got in the way and here's it's been
a month.

At the end of August and beginning of September we moved household and
studio to the new location, our very own house (it's the first time for
us!). The move was hard, movers didn't show, friends couldn't help. Moving
the studio was a huge pain. Many of you probably have done that, but moving
from the location where I had been for four years was like pulling teeth.
Anji, at least, will be glad to hear that I threw out an enormous amount.
The new studio floor was unfinished concrete. I finished it with a natural
resin from Biosheild Paint - completely beautiful! The floor looked like
what I dream the surface of my pots might look like!

So, the kiln is wired in, and I fired it yesterday and am pleased to say
nothing went wrong. In fact, in it's new location, it took significantly
shorter time to fire to cone 6 than at my last location (where you may
remember I had several electrical woes), by about 2 hours. My first order
since the move will be bisqued tomorrow and delivered by the end of the
week, if all continues to go well.

The new back yard is large. Need to find a statue of Kuan Yin and dragon to
put underneath the old, large pecan tree. I also have room to turn an old
electric kiln into a salt sagger kiln - I'll keep you posted on that. In
the meantime I do believe that I will look for a source of saw dust and
start pit firing in a garbage can. And soon, soon, soon the vegetable
garden will be planned out and built, waiting for Spring (I hope Kelly in
Ohio will give me pointers there...).

The sniper killings here are of course distressing. The anxiety level here
is very reminiscent of when anthrax hit us last year. These are dark times.

But the kiln works and the studio is moved and for those things I'm
grateful!

I'm back in firing mode!!! I finished off the rebuild on my gas kiln
and she fires like a dream again.
I ran a test fire yesterday with of course a glaze firing. Risky?
Very, but I didn't want to waste the
gas. As luck would have it, my kiln ran like a Volkswagon bug with a
454 cid!

I still need to fine tune it. I noticed a cone and a half difference
from top to bottom. I'll add some
shims to close off the flue like last time. I'm sure this is not the
way to go about it, but it worked
before to even it out when I had a 2 cone difference.
