Dear Clayarters:
I am going to be in New Orleans the weekend of the Superbowl (Jan. 27-29).
If any of you are there and are interested I would like to meet you.
Also please let me know if there are any pottery museums, galleries, or show
going on.
You can write me off list if you prefer .
Thanks a lot
Mayssan

Mayssan,
Carol Robinson Gallery, on the corner of Napoleon and Magazine Street,
exhibits my work (clay sculpture) as well as the work of many other ceramic
artists, sculptors, and painters. There are galleries, antique shops, etc.
all up and down Magazine St. Julia Street is another wonderful source for
galleries. Most of the galleries carry both two and three -D work. There is
an interesting potter on Magazine street who works and sells his ware out of
his shop. NO is a wonderful city; while there, have fun and experience the
most delectable food as often as possible! Have a beniegt ( sp?, pronounced
ben-yay) at the Cafe du Monde in the French Quarter for me!
Enjoy,
Jean Cappadonna-Nichols

There are a few antique stores on Magazine Street where you can view some of
George E. Ohr's pieces. If you have the $$ you can buy one or two. There is
also a potter named Charles Bonn (Bohn?) who runs Shade Tree pottery, also
on Magazine Street. He does raku. He also has a very nice silver blue raku
glaze that I love but couldn't afford to use even if I had the recipe.

Mayssan,
Call the art dept. at Newcomb College and check what they have on exhibit in their
gallery and ask them if Newcomb pottery is on display there or elsewhere in the
city.
Newcomb is a college of Tulane University and about the turn of the century (20th)
there was a pottery there that had some of the most beautiful glazes I've ever
seen. They looked like you were seeing them through the fog.
I spent about 3 years researching and trying to reproduce those glazes--even took
classes at ASU in glaze calculation ( and I was over 51) and never came close.
Have a great time!
