Hi Stephanie!

Thanks for your well-written essay about the current energy crises.

The one caveat that I have for other states considering deregulation: be sure
there's sufficient public hearings prior to a vote on such a measure. I think
if Californians were given a moreso honest and clear picture of what
deregulation would entail, it may have been defeated.

Instead, we were bombarded with mailers, TV ads, and other promotions
extolling the "virtues" of deregulation.

Now, we energy rate payers, don't even get representation, to the Public
Utilities hearings. More lawsuits will inevitably occur, raising electric
bills even further, to pay for legal costs. It's a big mess, and this won't
be an issue easily solved.

The cost of propane has also gone skyward. Last year, we paid less than a
dollar a gallon, to fill our 150 gallon tank. It now costs $1.50 a gallon. I
expect that this cost will rise, too, to reflect the higher costs of natural
gas, from which propane is derived.
