I followed Clayart advice and coated my new elements with ITC 213. I fired
a bisque load and found fine brown flakes all over everything. Hum, figured
I'd play it safe so I fired another bisque load (after vacuuming) and found
the flakes again, though fewer. I faxed Alice at ITC and she faxed me back
within a few hours. Then Feriz called me later to make sure I understood
the fax! Now, that is service. I only bought a pint of the stuff and they
called me up - wow! (American companies NEVER call overseas; I live in
Dubai.)

As for the flaking, they told me it is normal for ITC 213 to shed until it
"merges into the metal matrix" after three to four firings. They suggested
I do another bisque firing or put broken bisque around the edges beside the
elements and keep the glazed pieces in the middle and only do brown, black
or dark blue pots.

It's raining today; the second time since March 1999.
