Les:
You cited this glaze: 432 g Nepheline Syenite; 336 Barium
Carbonate; 68 Flint; 64 Old Mine #4 ballclay; 36 Copper Carbonate.
You said you fired in reduction to Cone 6, and the result was a matt
finish not suitable to hold food. You asked for a version that would be
gloss and ok with food.
Both Neph Sy and Barium Carb contribute to the matt finish, so
these need to be much changed, the Barium C should go, if you want gloss.
(Although you could sub Strontium C for the Barium C, and be foodsafe).
Any good mid-viscosity clear would serve as the base for a C6 R
copper red, eg, Hansen's 20x5 clear, with say 1% Copper Carb and 2-3% tin
oxide would likely produce red given enough reduction.
Or you could try a revision to your original:
44 Custer feldspar
10 Nepheline syenite
28 Wollastonite
14 Flint
add 4% copper carbonate
Note, however, that without any clay, this mix will settle quickly. You'll
need 3% CMC to lessen the settling. If you want to add some Bentonite, say
2%, then reduce the Neph sy by 2%.
good tests. Peace. Tom B.

Tom -

If I said I fired to Cone 6 I erred. I fire a wood kiln to Cone 10 - 11.

Does this change the picture at all? TIA for your advice.
