O sprayed "rigidizer" on the fiber in my tophat
raku kiln when I built it and believe it has
helped to keep it in good condition for the four
or fivr years we have used it. Seems to keep the
fibers in place and less susceptible to damage
form bumps. The product is "airset sodium
silicate". I got from my clay and ceramic
product supplier. I don't know how it differs
from the sodium silicate used in slips and
glazes. Don't let it freeze. Not sure about
shelf life as there were no instructions with
it. We applied it with a spraygun. I would use
it again if I built another portable raku kiln
from fiber
